A wedding is a big investment, both in your relationship, and financially. (We’ll be focusing on the financial side in this blog though!).
As self-confessed wedding obsessives here at The Waltham Barns, we think weddings are a beautiful investment. But our wedding coordinators also appreciate that all couples are different, and have different budgets and ideas of what they’d like to spend. Whatever option or package our couples choose, we are on hand to offer expert guidance and help you get the most from your budget.
Here are five of our tips for saving money on your wedding…
Plan, plan, plan!
Being organised and knowing your top budget is super important.
You’re probably rolling your eyes and thinking “Tell me something I haven’t heard before!”…But we couldn’t write a blog on wedding money saving tips without mentioning the importance of planning.
Decide on the maximum amount you want to spend right at the beginning of your wedding journey, along with where your budget is coming from, and what your top priorities for your big day are. There are lots of helpful money saving apps available that you could try out, or use a good old fashioned spreadsheet.
It’s always a good idea to keep a little bit back for any unexpected costs, too. And remember, it’s not only your special day – you will also need a little bit of cash for pre-wedding celebrations…
Have a smaller hen/stag do
We all love hen/stag do, but the pressure to have a large, Instagram-able celebration has grown over the last decade or so.
It’s now the norm to have a whole holiday for a hen or stag do, and to go abroad for multiple days. But even if your friends pay for you (the bride and groom), there will still be costs, such as food, drinks and transport. A big celebration isn’t for everyone, and you shouldn’t feel pressured to keep up with the Joneses.
Consider having smaller hen and stag dos which are a little more low key. Smaller doesn’t have to mean any less fun or memorable – keep in mind that the true magic is in your wedding day itself.
Avoid peak season
If you’re not sure what we mean by peak season, have a read of our blog all about it. But in a nutshell, the most popular and most expensive time to tie the knot is May to October. And bank holidays during these months are the peak of the peak!
We think you can have the wedding of your dreams during any month and any day of the week. Whether you get married on a Tuesday in November, or on August bank holiday, our wedding team will strive to make all your dreams come true.
But if you want to save some money on your wedding, think about picking a date during off-peak season. Monday to Thursday also tends to be cheaper than Friday to Sunday.
Don’t worry too much about accommodating all your guests with the most “convenient” date. Do what’s best for you and your partner, it’s your wedding after all.
Take advantage of deals
Keeping your eye out for deals and special offers from venues and suppliers is a smart idea if you want to save money on your wedding.
We have a fantastic offer available at the moment – we’re offering Friday weddings in 2022 at the cost of a Thursday wedding. This could mean you save up to £1000, depending on the time of year.

Consider an evening wedding
We offer what we like to call “Twilight Weddings” at The Waltham Barns, and we recommend that you consider this if you’d like to save money on your special day.
Our Twilight Weddings include a shorter day with a later ceremony. You can choose from a buffet or barbecue (April – September) to complement your wedding, and you are welcome to add the perfect entertainment, such as a DJ or band.
Lots of couples love our evening wedding option, it’s a little bit different and proves that shorter definitely doesn’t mean any less sweet!
