Thomas and Lauran got married at The Waltham Barns on Sunday 3rd October 2021. It was a beautiful, intimate day and we were honoured to help the lovely couple tie the knot and celebrate with their closest friends and family.
They were kind enough to let us ask some in depth questions about their experience, and how they went about planning their big day. Keep reading if you’d like to find out more about real weddings and experiences at The Waltham Barns…
How did Thomas & Lauran meet and when did they get engaged?
Thomas and Lauran met through Lauran’s cousin, who knew Thomas’ friendship group. They got engaged in August 2018, and had their wedding date in the diary for a long while – they always knew they wanted a long engagement so they would have time to save up and plan everything to a tee.
Why did they choose Waltham Barns at Little Channels?
The Waltham Barns was actually the very first venue that Thomas and Lauran viewed. They immediately got a great gut feeling, but they thought they should see more venues to make sure we were 100% right for them.
They found that every other venue they viewed just didn’t compare, and we were very pleased to find them the perfect date and get them booked in. Thomas and Lauran loved the simple elegance of The Waltham Barns, especially the natural wooden beams. They felt it lends itself to any theme or style – and we have to agree!
Did Thomas & Lauran have a theme or style in mind?
Thomas and Lauran were very open minded during the planning process, and were happy to be guided by the expert knowledge of our wedding coordinators at The Waltham Barns, and their suppliers.
The final product was a classic and neutral colour scheme of grey, gold, green and white, which looked so pretty within our venue. We particularly loved how the ceremony room looked with gorgeous styling by Occasions Covered.
Who were their suppliers?
Finding the right suppliers was a priority for Thomas and Lauran. They wanted to click with each supplier and know that they shared the same vision – you do have to spend a fair amount of time communicating with your suppliers after all.
Locating the ideal photographer was especially important to them, and was the very first thing they did in the planning process. They view wedding photos as a physical memento to treasure forever, so knowing they were going to be perfect was essential. They fell in love with the style of Mini & Me Photography and felt they were all on the same wavelength.
As you can see from their teaser images, they certainly achieved stunning photos that they will be able to cherish for the rest of their lives. Their confetti shot is especially unique, as it was done during the evening. The effect is stunning, especially with our string lights in the background. We also adore the rainbow photo from our wedding garden – what a beautiful symbol for their special day!

What advice would they give to couples planning their wedding?
Thomas and Lauran wanted a small-ish wedding, with 45 guests for the whole day, and an extra 24 in the evening. They told us how important it was for them to be intentional with everyone they invited – they wanted to be able to chat and spend time with each and every guest during their special day.
Their top advice would be to remember that it’s your day, and so you are in charge of the guest list. Don’t feel pressured when it comes to who to invite.
They also stressed how they made sure they were both on board with every aspect of their wedding, rather than them having to convince the other that something was a good idea. Thomas and Lauran didn’t want to have to make compromises with each other, and they advise other couples to make the whole process a collaborative one.
